HOT MESSAGEVBPCUG now has it's very own E-Mail address. It is vbpcug@yahoo.com. If you have any questions about the operation of the club, please contact them at that E-Mail address. Mail to VBPCUG. At this mailbox you will hear from Joann Briggs who is one of our charter members.
This Club was started in October 1995, when a few senior residents of the Buena Ventura Mobile home Park wanted to learn more about the seemingly complex world of computers. In the beginning, no one was an expert, but a few people took the initiative to get together once a month and share information that each person had.
Founder, Howard Wilson and Co-Founder, John Nichols gathered enough officers to get the club off the ground. Jack Brooks became President in January 1996 and was a formidable leader. Either he came up with answers or other members came up with them. Jack's son is a Computer Programmer and Consultant, so we know where he got a lot of his information in the beginning. After we got started, every one contributed to the Q & A's. Under Jack's leadership, and the very capable assistance of Joann Worch, Joann Briggs, John Nichols, Bruce Thomas, Howard Wilson, and Meryl Morris, the club was underway.
It is a small and intimate user's group. Starting off with 10-12 people getting together, the club flourished. It was quite easy to pour out your problems into the discussion group, and they were able to come up with the answers. That helped to move the group forward to newer equipment and better technology. The group meets on the second Saturday of each month at 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon in the clubhouse at 11405 Darling Road, Ventura, CA 93004. Current status of the club is 53 members.
The purpose of this club is to learn from each other. The motto is "Friends Helping Friends." John Nichols favorite quote: "If you come away from a meeting learning only one thing, it is well worth it."
The goal for this club is to help beginner's with encouragement by answering their questions and show them how to perform certain tasks on their computers. Demos are performed for the members and we have guest speakers from time to time thanks to the Channel Islands P.C. Users Group who is also hosting this web site.
