CIPCUG group and event calendar information

This page tells you how to sign up for a google account, how to connect that account to the CIPCUG google group and the CIPCUG google calendar, or how to use these facilities without creating a google account.

First, let's start with information about creating a google account.

Creating a google account:

This is a link to the Google wizard for creating a new google account.  This account allows you to link your google identity to email accounts (not necessarily a google/gmail account), the google calendar, google groups, google blogging, and more:

Joining the CIPCUG user group:

The CIPCUG user group is a place where we will be posting announcements related to the club (including late schedule changes and other messages we need to get to members in a timely manner).  We will also post special deals on computers, programs, and other announcements we think will be of general interest to club members.  If you already have a google account, you will have options as to how you receive these announcements.  If you do not have a google account, you can still sign up for the group and you will receive emails containing the announcements.  You can also post to the group by sending an email to the group address, but I will limit all posting to the categories I listed above: announcements of general interest to club members.

Signing up is as simple as sending an email address.  I will receive the signup message and will accept CIPCUG members within 24 hours, barring unusual circumstances.  Click the link below to send the email.  Note that your browser will attempt to send an email using your default email address, and this is the address the group messages will come to.  If you want the group messages sent to a different email, make sure you change your 'From' address to where you want the group messages to go.

And it is possible that after trying out the group, you will want to sign back out and stop receiving our emails.  Leaving the group is also easily accomplished with the link below:

Using the CIPCUG user group:

Using the group is the easiest part of all.  If you change nothing, you will start receiving emails from the group.  We do not post a lot of things, so it may be a few days before you see any messages.  To post an announcement to the group for everyone to see, just send the message in an email to: cipcug@googlegroups.com and I will approve the posting with 24 hours.

If you want to, you can also control how you receive email message and how your email address appears in the group IF you have a google account.  To use your google account to control how you receive messages from the group, click this link.  If you would like more information than what I am providing, you can click here to visit the google page describing groups.

Using the CIPCUG calendar:

We have a CIPCUG calendar with google.  You can display this calendar on your own website.  If you have a google account, you can make your own calendar and add some or all of the events from the CIPCUG calendar to your own calendar.  You can import the CIPCUG calendar into a Macintosh, the Mozilla-Sunbird or other calendaring system that accepts an iCal/ics calendar.  You can also attach to our calendar as an RSS feed.

The links you will need to attach to the CIPCUG calendar are given below.  In most cases, you will copy the link into your application by using your right mouse button then selecting copy on this page, then right-click and paste into the appropriate place in your calendar application.

Below the links are examples of how the calendar can be displayed on a website.

To sign up for a google calendar of your own, you can use this link.
