Are you using quick launch? You should be!

If you have a few programs you use everyday, put their shortcuts into the Quick Launch area. That is the spot to the right of the Start button.
Drag the shortcut from the desktop into that area.
If that doesn't work, you probably need to enable Quick Launch.
Right-click the taskbar (the bar at the bottom). Click Properties.
On the Taskbar tab, select Show Quick Launch.
The beauty of Quick Launch is that you need click only once to open the program. Regular shortcuts require a double-click. Also, if you keep the taskbar visible all the time, you'll be able to open the programs in Quick Launch no matter what else is on your monitor. To keep the taskbar visible, right click it, select Properties and check "Keep the taskbar on top of other windows."

Printer Tip: If you're like me and recycle paper by printing on the blank side of used sheets, don't use three-hole punched paper. Store bought, pre-punched paper often has a waxy residue left over from when manufacturers drill the holes; the paper you punch is fine. And never use paper that's been through a color laser printer. My Brother laser printer was nearly ruined when the color ink melted while printing. Just trust me on this, okay?

Quick Tip

Did you know that you could add toolbars to the task bar at the bottom of your desktop? Right click on an empty spot on the task bar, scroll up to "toolbars", then over. Click on a toolbar option to select it. My favorite toolbars? Well, I use the "Quicklaunch" toolbar, which contains commonly used items like Internet Explorer and Outlook Express. You can also drag other shortcuts to the tool bar to make it more useful to you. My other favorite toolbar is "Desktop" (not the same as the Show Desktop icon on the Quicklaunch toolbar. The Desktop Tool bar can be dragged to the far right, beside your system tray (the area where you clock is located). If I have a document or other project open and need to get to something on my desktop, I just click on the Desktop Toolbar arrows and the contents of my desktop rise upward, where I can click on the one I need.

If you have a broadband, always on Internet connection, you might find the Address Bar toolbar helpful. Type in the web site address, click "Go" and you’re off to cyberspace! It works on dial up connections, too, but not quite as fast.
