MY VERY OWN WEB SITE
I like leading SIGs on different topics.
This was the SIG (Special Interest Group) of CIPCUG (Channel Islands PC Users Group) held on March 3, 2003
Setting up your own free Web Site:

When you do this you go to the sign up screen:
Remember to click on the Sign Up Now in the box that
says Free Yahoo! Mail
There will be a brief form to fill out - and then you are set.
Be SURE TO email yourself (from this address) to your "real" email address so that you have a record and don't forget what this address is.
You will need to know this soon.
When we are done, your new website will be
www.geocities.com/thenameyouchose
The Confirmation that you have DONE IT!!!
Sign in as your new email address
Now in the address bar of your browser - type www.geocities.com You should see the next screen.

Depending on what you want to use your site for, these might be a good idea.
If you just want to post a few pictures of the Grandkids, or one page or two about your
hobby, then probably the Sign up for a free web site
If so, then click on the
Learn More text to go to the next page

Now:
This step is done off line
Of course we could have a whole SIG or series of them on this part, but for now, we'll use the BUILDING A PHOTO WEB SITE feature in Irfanview graphics editor that we highlighted a few months ago.
This creates a web page and all the photos and thumbnails in one directory on your hard drive.
We're just going to assume that this is done and you know where your HTML file is that you want to upload.
Now click on the FILE MANAGER words to upload that puppy.
Click on that OPEN File Manager
We're almost home !!
Click on UPLOAD FILES
upload yours
Rename index.html to old.html
RENAME yours.html to index.html
