How to disable the FLASH plugin to Microsoft Internet Explorer

This is a "quick and dirty" fix to an annoyance (or problem depending your point of view)

You may have noticed as you surf the Internet that sometimes annoying ads with animation take up a lot of room on your screen.

In some cases, like Yahoo – Games – you can't even get to the game without sitting through the movie trailer first.

Here is a fix to that.

Start – Run and then type the following exactly

rename c:\windows\system\macromed\flash\flash.ocx flash.ooo

and then click on the OK button or just hit the Enter key

(If this doesn't work then Start - Programs - Accessories - MSDOS Prompt should open up a black box with a C:\WINDOWS> flashing in the upper left corner. Type the above (or cut and paste it) there.
One more step:

rename c:\windows\system\macromed\flash\swflash.ocx swflash.ooo

Your problem is solved. You may notice the ad for the movie is still there, but it is not moving and dancing.

Of course, now that you've turned it off, you'll probably find several websites that need flash on again – like for the online greeting cards.

To turn it on again just Start Run

rename c:\windows\system\macromed\flash\flash.ooo flash.ocx

and then

rename c:\windows\system\macromed\flash\swflash.ooo swflash.ocx
