SANTA BARBARA MAYFLOW3ER April 2007 Volume 2, Issue 2

MESSAGE FROM THE GOVERNOR

Our Colony will be celebrating our 40th Birthday at our next meeting, on April 28, 2007. It will be held at the Glen Annie Golf Club. If you're interested in attending call the Secretary, Judy Cardinal at (805) 967-2134. Please bring a pink balloon. They will be gathered and released with a special acknowledgment of all past and present Governors.

On the cover of the December 2006 National Mayflower quarterly, is the second phase of the Facilities Expansion - the renovation of the garage to create the Administration Center. This building will be in need of more new working equipment. During my January 2007 phone call to Carolyn Doyle, who is in charge of Publications and mail orders, she stated that new furnishings (see page 357) would be truly appreciated. A file Cabinet costs $200.00 and is in need for storage of all the new materials. A Shelving unit costs $200.00. May I suggest we consider buying at least one file cabinet and one shelving unit for the Administration Center?

Special thanks goes out to our new Webmaster, Gary Smith and his committee on a job well done on the release of the new website. Our website address is: http://www.cipcugorg/sbmayfiowcr.

Just a reminder that my email address is: aldenbrowndb@yahoo.com. Not a capital "A". The April meeting will include nominations, elections, and installation of new officers. Outgoing officers are asked to pass on all material related to their office to the new elected officer.

As Always,

Dolores Barton, Governor

HOW TO GET IN TOUCH WITH YOUR COLONY OFFICERS

HISTORY OF THE FOUNDATION OF THE SANTA BARBARA COLONY

OF THE MAYFLOWER SOCIETY IN CALIFORNIA

The Santa Barbara Colony was formed May 19, 1967, through the efforts of Mrs. Lloyd F. Wheeler of Santa Barbara, along with several other interested parties. The names of the other early founders have not been ascertained, except that it is known that they continued to be involved with Mrs. Wheeler during the formative years and were a strong force in the Community.

The documentation regarding the early years appears to have been misplaced at sometime and has not resurfaced to date. We do know that the past Governors were as follows:

Mrs. Lloyd Wheeler. 1967 - 1969

Mrs. Sylvia L. Decker 1969 - 1971 (deceased.)

Mrs. Bruce Landis 1971 - 1973

Mrs. Joseph E. Maquire 1973 - 1976

Mrs. David Warner 1976 - 1979

Mrs. E. Larsen 1979 - 1982

Mr. Deming Hobart 1982 - 1985 (deceased)

Mrs. John Marwede 1985 - 1987 (deceased)

Mrs. Mary Ellen Galbraith 1987 - 1989 (deceased)

Mrs. Harold Faulker 1989 - 1991 (deceased)

Mrs. Dale Rickards 1991 - 1992

Mrs. Rosemary Flamion 1992 - 1995

Mrs. Winifred Gill 1995 - 1996

Mr. Warren Warner 1996 - 2001

Mrs. Priscilla Draper 2001 - 2003

Mr. Richard Hunter 2003 - 2005

Mrs. Dolores Barton 2005 - Present

Currently, the Colony meets twice a year. Our Annual meeting is held in April of each year. Our Mayflower Compact meeting is held in October of each year. Our membership consists of approximately One Hundred Twenty-eight members. Our Colony area is from Paso Robles to the North and Malibu, Chatsworth and Simi Valley to the South. This covers most of San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties. Please see the State web site for membership information and requirements. You do not have to be a member of our Colony to attend our membership meetings and we do encourage you to attend. We look forward to having you as a member of our Colony in the near future.

May 2007 - Celebrate 400 years since the founding of Jamestown.

In addition to events scheduled at Jamestown Settlement, Jamestown 2007, America's 400th anniversary is planning the commemoration of statewide, national and international significance, with a series of signature events and programs.

Individuals and organizations are invited to become involved in this American milestone. Our Colony membership is 6\fs20 at 135. Could the Mayflower Silver book collections at our Three sponsored Libraries (Venturn County Public, Santa Maria Pubiic and Santa Barbara County Genealogy) play a big part in the increase in membership? If so, how about a fourt library in the Colony district? A fourih Library is to be discussed at the October 2007 meeting.
