"Compact Day" Meeting
The Society of Mayflower Descendants in the State of California , Santa Barbara colonymet on October 20, 2007 at the Glen Annie Golf Club in Goleta with Governor Tami Wil;kening officiating. Governor Wilkening called the meeting to order at 11:35 a.m. Eighteen persons were in attendance.
Governor Wilkening welcomed guests Hanni Scheib, speaker Dr. John Johnson, and welcomed new members Burt Jacobs (John Alden) and Patsy Snow (Stephen Hopkins).
In the absence of the Chaplain, Judy Cardinal, Deputy Bovernor, gave the invocation.
The Secretary's report of the previous meeting was read by the Deputy Bovernor. The minutes were approved as read.
he Treasurer's report was read by Governor Wilkening, .
A memorial Service for recently deceased Colony members Lynn Faletti and Dorothy Everman was conducted by Deputy Governor Cardinal.
There were no reports of officers.
Report of committees:
a. Membership - Governor Wilkening stated the need for a Chair of this committee, and . Interested members should contact her.
b. Program - Deputy Governor Carddinal announced that June Lazich will present a program on Priscilla Alden at the 2008 meeting. Due to increasing large group competition for Saturdays at Glen Annie, we may have to move our meeting site.
c. Auditor - Governor Wilkening stated the need for an auditor from the membership. Interested persons should contact her.
d. State Delegate - Priscilla Draper reported on the 2007 meetingshe attended in in San Francisco.
e. Website - Gary Smith reported on minor changes made to the website. He urged the members to send him more pictures to include in site.
f. Newsletter - Governor Wilkening would like more members to submit biographies as this would add a personal touch to the Newsletter. She also suggested that a brief summary of the prior meeting be included in the \par newsletter as opposed to minutes of meeting given space and monetary \par constraints.
NEW BUINSESS (out of order)
Governor Wil;kening stated that the lunch price had rissen to 20.00. Consensus was not to increase our price to ($20.00) at this time. Due to the many conflicts identified by members in the use of the third Saturday of the month, it was suggested to hold the meetings on the fourth Saturdays.

M/S/P (Margaret Swanson/Yvonne Knerr) that the Colony donate $200.00 from our Treasury to the National Building Fund Fund for shelving.
The meeting was adjourned for lunch at 12:05 P.M.
The meeting resumed at 12:43 P.M. Deputy Governor Cardinal introduced Dr. John R. Johnson, Curator of Anthropology at Santa Barbara Museum of Natural istory, who spoke to the grou0p on"New Discoveries Regarding the Lone Woman of San Nicolas Island and Her People". At the conclusion of his presentation. Dr. Johnson was presented with a certificate of appreciation and several small gifts.
OLD BUSINESS out of order)
M/S/P/ (Yvonne Knerr/Gary Smith). That an Educational Fund be established. This fund to be funded by the State Allocation each year and the fund to be used for (1) donation to the State (2) payment of additional Silver Books for the three original libraries i.e. Santa Barbara County Genealogical Library, Ventura Countyt-Main Library, Santa Maria Public Library-Main Library, (3) Fund Silver books at additional libraries; and(4) provide for educational expenses incurred by the Educational Chair.
M/S/P (Priscilla Draper/Margaret Swanson). Rules for the Educational Fund ilss be (1) The Santa Barbara Colony will support libraries only in Santa Barbara, Ventura and San Luis Obispo Counties (2) libraries that will be supported asidee from those identifiewd above. will be nominated by a Colony member. If more than one library is nominated, the Board will determine the priority..
M/S/P (Margaret Swanson/Yvonne Knerr) that 25% of the annual state allocation money be budgeted forf educational materials each year.
M/S/P (Margaret /Priscilla Draper) that 20% of the annual State allocation fund plus any money donated specifically by members for this purpose be donated to the State Scholarship fund.
Members nominated the following libraries to receive the Silver book Collection: San Luis Obispo, Lompoc, and Thousand Oaks. The Board will establish the priority.
M/S/P (Margaret Swanson/Priscilla Draper) Approval for Governor Wilkening to continue to search on-line for low cost/latest editions of the Silver Books, and that our Mayflower Colony can choose to purchase these books from Governor Wilkening with accompanying documentation to assure there is no personal benefit.
Governor Wilkening reported that the Stgatre Society had been contacted regarding By-Law changes for our election dates. No Changes are required.
The Roll Call of Ancestors was conducted by Priscilla Draper, Past Governor. William Brewster 10 descendants, and Richard Warren had 6.
Governor Wilkening announced that the copies of the Mayflower Colmpact found at your places was to be taken home and shared with family and friends.

The Benediction was given by Deputy Governor Cardinal.
Following the announcement that our next meeting will be April 26, 2008, Governor Wilkening wished all a safe journey home and a happy Thanksgiving.
