In 1897, The General Society of Mayflower Descendants was formed in Plymouth, Massachusetts by people descending from those early settlers. This century-old volunteer-run society celebrates the memory of the Pilgrims, studies their history and performs many other services such as presenting educational programs and distributing scholarships. There are societies in every state and in several other countries.
