The President's Message

March 2010

Rick Curry

This is a going to be a busy month or two! My column will probably arrive too late to remind you of the annual (22nd annual!) Saint Patrick’s Day parade in Ventura on Saturday March 13, but just in case, the parade starts at the old San Buenaventura Mission at 10 a.m. At 1 p.m., that same afternoon, the newly constructed Albinger Museum is presenting a simulated walk through Ventura as it was circa 1860 ($15 admission, call 805-658-4726 for information). After the Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations, don't forget to set your clocks forward on March 14. Then April has Easter on the 4th, Earth Day on the 22nd, a day for fun and pranks, and the unmentionable day on the 15th that brings so little joy.

Thanks once again to Toby and Michael for putting on the presentation/tutorial of how to use Skype and other web communication and sharing tools. They put this on with short notice, and it was a very informative discussion of technologies that many of us want to take advantage of to keep in touch with friends and loved ones.

My wife, Penelope, has offered to try her hand at maintaining the club Web site. We will probably set up a special e-mail address for the webmaster (webmistress?), but in the mean time if you notice something that needs attention with the Web site, feel free to drop me a line at, and I will make sure she gets it.

For those who did not make it to our stormy February meeting, it was announced that Helen Long has been at Community Memorial Hospital suffering from severe back pain. I am sure that you all join me in wishing her a speedy recovery.

I have been working on my promised Web page that will assist in signing up for the CIPCUG Google group. The page will be up by the time you receive this newsletter, and might even have a link on the main CIPCUG page. Until the link is put on the club home page, you can find the page at

So please excuse the brevity of this month's column, I have some Web page programming to do in order to keep this commitment. Happy computing!
