THE SIXTIES

The Sixties saw multiple college graduations, four marriages within five years and the arrival of nine grandchildren. One of the marriages took place in he living room of the grand old house. Though some of the children were widely separated geographically, they visited periodically and most of the grandchildren spent at least some time at the house and in the lake. After twenty-three years residence, with the property being the family focal point, the time came for Bob and Irene to lay down the maintenance burden and the long, daily, pre-freeway commute to St. Paul. The last chapter of the Smith family in the Clear Lake house finally came in 1969 when the moving van rolled off into the sunsetr, ending a wonderful era.
