THE FIFTIES

Television became a mass meduim for the first time in trhe fifties. The international scene was dominated by the newly-developed "H-bomb". "Peace and prosperity" was the principal domestic motif.

The annual crop of chickens raised during the late Forties faded to a fragrant memory, but the Smith household experienced a profusion of animals and period cars. Two dogs and as many as eleveen cats at one time prowled among the Studebakers, ancient Chevvies and the rare Ford. The Fifties saw he Smith children grow up. All five of them were in Forest Lake High School at one time or another during that decade. Four graduated in the Fifties, going on to various colleges, with the last to follow in the early sixties.
