The Fifties

The mid-fifties saw the No. 2 son (Bruce) and No. 3 son (Gary) of Bob and Irene summering at Many Glacier Hotel. Bruce (house boy and bartender) worked in the summers of '56 and '57, while Gary was a busboy in '57. Bernardine Peek (mainly waitress) worked there in '55, '56 and '57. Graduations, along with major changes in management and hiring practices (which had remained much the same since the earliest days), brought an end to our golden summers.
The Smiths and Bernardine had attended the same university for years but, like Bob and Irene thirty-some years earlier, never met until the Glacier Park summers. Again romance blossomed and Gary and Bernardine were married in 1960.
Although there are numerous scenic pictures, we find that we have scarcely any "people" pictures. If any "Parkers" from that era should find this page, we invite you to send copies of your favorite pictures (especially involving "our" people) by e-mail or surface mail and I will post them with credits on this or a linked page. We have a slide-scanner, so can handle material in any form (e-pictures in .jpg, .gif. or .bmp format, please). We solemnly promise to return all photographs provided. E-mail us via the MAILTO box below or surface mail to: Gary & Bernie Smith, 376 Beverly Circle, Camarillo, CA 93010.
