The President's Message

October 2003

David Harris

It was an honor to represent our club at the 10 th Annual Southwest User Group Conference in San Diego. Toby Scott and I arrived on Friday and attended the Welcome Reception given by Adobe Systems. At this dinner the winners were announced for the News Bulletin and Web Page Content and Design winners. Thanks to the fine work of John Weigle our editor, supported by the ideas and suggestions of members, our Club won first prize for News Bulletin in the 12 or more page division of the eight clubs entered. I can't express how proud I was to accept the award for our club. On Saturday we each attended four sessions, a noon meal presentation by Intel and a Vendors Fair and dinner, running from 8 a.m. until past 9 p.m. On Sunday they again had us at an 8 a.m. breakfast presentation by JASC, two sessions and a lunch sponsored by Microsoft where we had the first presentation of Office 2003. The sessions I attended included; Communications With Members, Building Corporation/User Group Alliance Programs,Presentation in a Box, President's Meeting, and Officer Burn Out.

I can honestly say that all during the weekend, attending sessions, presentations and meeting with other user group members I had the opportunity to learn more than I anticipated on user groups, their operation, problems and future presentations. This weekend was one of the best meetings I had ever attended. Hopefully I can put these ideas to use to continue the success of CIPCUG in the years to come. I do recommend that any and all members of our club attend next year's conference. It is open to all user group members. The cost in nominal, $40 registration, $99 for a room at the Hilton and all meals for attendees and guests pro-vided by vendors.
