The President's Message

July 2016

I just realized that the year is half over! It’ll be 2017 before we know it. I hope everyone had a great 4th of July and it was safe and sane. It’s been a rather hot summer even here in Ventura County. Many of us do not have air conditioning so take care of yourselves. Stay hydrated and as cool as you can.

On another note: remember a couple of years ago when a representative of the Civil Grand Jury spoke to us? Well as of today, July 1, 2016, I am a brand new member of that jury for 2016-17. Just spent two days in orientation and this afternoon names were drawn out of the hat and I was about number 11. It feels a little bit like voluntarily going back to work. The orientation was eye-opening and would have been worth the two days even if I had not been selected. By 3:30 today I was hoping I would not be. We start Tuesday July 5. That’s all I can say.

The Facebook presentation was informative and humorous. I think everyone learned a little more about the beast. I’m waiting for TOE so I can refer to the suggested settings and check mine. I haven’t worried much about FB because I don’t post much of anything personal. My main worry is I do post things about politics, and here in California I am in the minority. I’ve lost a few friends and unfriended one whose rhetoric became so inflammatory I could no longer bear it. Mostly I keep track of friends and family and repost cat stuff. I also follow many of the national parks. I love seeing photos of places I’ve been and some I’d like to visit.

The elections were handled by acclimation, so the board remains the same for one more year. Next year, we will need a new president, so be thinking about it.

I’ve been occupied with other things of late and don’t spend nearly as much time in FB as I used to, but still have to check in every day or so to see what is going on.

’til the July meeting,
Lisa Toth, president

Happy computing!
